What is Forklift?
A forklift is a construction machine that uses a fork attachment to lift heavy loads. Forklifts are generally used in two types as battery and diesel forklifts.
In the modern world, freight transport tasks are solved in different ways. Despite the replacement of traditional equipment with high-tech systems, in some areas the familiar human-controlled technology still dominates.
Because of this, which also applies to the logistics industry, forklift is a loading and stacking solution that performs the functions of traditional stackers via a software controller.
Usage Areas of Forklifts
Loading and unloading goods on pallets, transporting them to a warehouse, stacking them and a host of other tasks are unthinkable without the use of counterbalance forklifts.
HELI offers a wide range of vehicles that have gained real recognition worldwide due to the advanced technologies used in the production of these machines, reliability, excellent performance, driver comfort. The wide range of HELI forklifts, with a choice of electric and diesel products, allows you to choose exactly the model that best fits the customer’s specific requirements.
The common task of all forklifts of this type is the same – to move the load from one place to another. However, approaches to the implementation of this study may be different. For example, there are models specifically designed to pass through narrow corridors. As a rule, they have a modest carrying capacity, but are distinguished by their compactness and high speed of movement.
Key features
For designers, the starting point in the design of loader models is the load capacity specification, on which all other parameters, from maximum lift height to mast type, depend. There are several types of installers, depending on the uninstall capabilities. Therefore, the first category is equipment capable of lifting loads weighing from 1 to 3.5 tons, followed by models with a carrying capacity of up to 5 tons, and the most powerful loaders can lift up to 25 tons.
It is clear that the characteristics of forklifts that can lift more than 20 tons of weight also differ in the parameters of the power filling – the power can be about 150 kW. As for the lifting height, it usually depends on the load capacity. The minimum lift height for most modern counterbalance forklifts is 3 m, the maximum is about 6 m At the same time, special warehouse equipment can work at heights of up to 13 m.
According to the type of power unit, forklifts can be divided into electric forklifts, diesel forklifts and gas forklifts (liquid gas forklifts). In electric forklifts, the wheels are directly driven by AC motors powered by a battery (acid, gel or lithium-ion).
Diesel forklifts use a diesel engine as a power unit. Diesel forklifts can be of hydrodynamic and hydrostatic type. Hydrodynamic models use a conventional automatic transmission. Hydrostatic diesel loaders are powered by hydraulic motors, while the diesel engine only powers the hydraulic pump.
LPG forklifts typically use gasoline engines adapted to run on LPG. Lifting and tilting of the forks of the loader is carried out by hydraulic cylinders, which are controlled through the distribution block of valves associated with the controls. Additional hydraulic cylinders can be used to move the carriage sideways (fork sideshift or sideshift), change the width between the forks (fork positioner).
To solve special tasks, additional attachments can be used, for example, a roll holder. You can consult our experts when choosing a forklift.
